Amanda's Animal Rescue UAE is a non-profit organization run by a woman named Amanda. She takes in abandoned and abused dogs and shelters them until they find a better, loving owner.

She uses social media such as Instagram and Facebook to raise awareness about animal abuse and mistreatment, and also posts pictures of animals waiting to be adopted, so the general public can easily browse through the images to find a suitable pet.

We visited Paws and Whiskers, a pet nursery in which Amanda sheltered abandoned and abused animals, and were able to not only learn directly from someone working with these situations, but also see the way the animals behaved based on the events they've been through.

She told us that if you see an animal which has been abused or abandoned, you should first of all try to take the animal away from the abuse to avoid further harm. You can then contact any volunteer group dedicated to animals in the UAE, including herself, in order to find out what to do to save the animal.

She also empowers the use of social media, as it is a platform which is seen by many and you can post a picture of the animal and ask for help or information.

We had personally first attended the adoption day held at Paws and Whiskers in order to volunteer and help out, but as it was a set facility, it already had official workers and staff there, and we were not needed to take care of the animal's welfare.

However, we found out that it is possible to walk the dogs or take them out for a day of fun, and fostering any of the pets is completely acceptable as well. This is good as it allows people to see if their home environment is suitable for the pet before officially adopting it.

We were also able to see the effects that animal abuse can have on an animal. We witnessed the behaviour of two dogs especially who had been abused. They were wary around people and barked easily, and their behaviour is erratic to some extent, compared to the rest of the dogs.

Overall, this was a fun experience for us to find out more directly about animal abuse and its effect on animals, and saw appropriate procedures which should be taken in order to ensure an animal's happiness.

Sincerely,

Sophie
